ARTIST STATEMENT
I develop an evolving body of paintings in which a recurring family becomes a lens through which I observe the transformations of contemporary society. Inspired by my own family but freed from documentary intent, my characters reappear from one painting to another, forming an expanding narrative where intimate experience and collective concerns intersect. Domestic spaces become stages on which ecological, social and cultural tensions quietly unfold. Floods, migration, climate change, consumption, technology and other signs of a changing world enter these familiar scenes, creating a tension between everyday life and the wider upheavals of our time. Animals—birds, cats and rats—are recurring figures within this universe. They act as observers sometimes silent witnesses to the human world. My paintings also draw on art history and cultural memory, with echoes of artists such as Jérôme Bosch, Dieric Bouts and Paul Delvaux, alongside references to literature. These fragments connect different periods of time, allowing past, present and future to coexist within the same image. Working primarily in oil on large-scale canvases, I construct each painting as an autonomous chapter within a larger, continually expanding story. Together, these works form a contemporary mythology in which family becomes a way of questioning how we live together, how we adapt, and what kind of future we are creating. Alongside my narrative paintings, I create drawings and smaller works centred on birds and plants, exploring the beauty, fragility and resilience of the living world.
